David Ward at Doxologue has provided a Family Worship Book for download. I have been giving serious consideration to something like this for Citadel Square but haven’t had an opportunity to distill all the available materials into a cohesive unit. David has apparently been compiling these materials for his church for some time.
The Family Worship Book includes short readings for family worship time (attention spans will no doubt be short, even for the children
), questions from “A Catechism for Boys and Girls” (two a week), a memory verse (one a week), and a hymn. You could certainly introduce newer music if you desire, but I would caution you to ensure the integrity of the text. Modern songwriters are getting much better at writing solid texts (Shane & Shane, Keith Getty, and Stuart Townend should all be at the very top of your list of current songwriters), but there is a lot of bad material, so exercise due diligence. Also included is a daily scripture reading guide family members can read individually.
I plan to use this with my own family and if it works (I don’t see any reason why it wouldn’t apart from apathy), I will move this kind of project to the top of my list of projects to complete for Citadel Square.
