I had heard of and read Mark Dever before this morning but I had never heard him preach. This morning I had the privelege of hearing him at the Founders Breakfast. I was struck by two things during his excellent discussion of Romans 9 and 10. The first thing that I noticed was the amount of preparation he obviously does before delivering a message. His message was very clear and to the point. The delivery was polished yet lively. He made it easy to listen to him and keep up with him. The message was challenging but not over anyone’s head.
The second thing I was blown away by was how well Dr. Dever reads scripture. Most people don’t really know how to read scripture out loud. I could have listened to him read the entire Bible and never get tired. His reading of scripture is a blessing to hear. It will cause me to work on my public reading of scripture much more from now on.
I’ll leave you with a quote from Dr. Dever’s message. Take this to heart. It’s refreshing.
Faith is the opposite of sin. Sin is trusting Satan’s reading of the situation. “Go ahead; it won’t matter.” Faith is trusting God’s reading of the situation. “It matters very much; I paid a heavy price for it.”
