How Should We Celebrate Civil Holidays?

I recently e-mailed Bob Kauflin and asked him about his thoughts on civil holidays and Christian worship. He answered my question on his “Q&A Fridays” post a couple of weeks ago. He answered the question exactly like I would have answered it, which means he’s right. ;-)

  1. [...] I’ve mentioned before (sort of) how I think we should handle civil holidays in planning corporate worship. Just because I don’t think we should use patriotic material in a service of worship to God doesn’t mean that I don’t respect and honor this country and those who fight to maintain our freedoms. I am deeply greatful for the men and women who put their lives on the line every day so that in turn I can worship the one true God and enjoy countless freedoms others around the world can only dream of. He even answered one of my questions on his Friday Q&A posts. My point is not to hold up a man; I’m not trying to exalt Bob Kauflin. I am trying to express gratitude to God for His placement of leaders like Bob that are willing to be transparent, that are willing to teach those who come behind them, and that are willing to give all the glory to God Himself.
