I found this press release extremely interesting on a couple of different fronts.
The first reason this is an interesting find is because, despite all the brilliant writers and pastors and speakers I have, do, and will study, I had no idea Joel Osteen was “America’s most influential Christian.” I guess a trip to Wal-Mart’s checkout counter, where his book is kindly displayed for one’s consideration, is in order.
If Osteen is America’s most influential Christian, over whom does he have influence? Americans in general? Other Christians? Marginal Christians? Who?
The second item that strikes me is the statement that “news coverage and acquisition of b-roll is permitted during the event. A limited
number of one-on-one interviews are available.”
This isn’t a worship service, as the release title says; it’s a spectacle. Maybe I’ll cancel my trip to Wal-Mart.
