Local Worship Band

I am currently teaching a couple of music classes at Charleston Southern University. Recently, one of my students asked me if I knew of any places his band could play to get more exposure. He sent me a couple of links to check out. I told him I would pass on the links to a couple of people, but before I did that I wanted to check them out myself. I didn’t want to recommend to colleagues a band that didn’t need to be playing in public.

They have a few demos on their MySpace site and I have to say that I am very impressed with the theological depth of the songs I’ve listened to. These guys are young. There’s no reason to expect them to have everything together. But I’m very impressed with what I’ve seen (example, another example, and yet another example) and heard so far. It is encouraging to see a younger generation—OK, hold on a minute! Am I old really enough to say there’s a younger generation?—that is able to make a positive impact for the Kingdom without feeling the need to “entertain.”

I haven’t seen them lead worship, and the demos that are available to listen to aren’t congregational songs. But they have a great sound (they kinda sound like Hootie & the Blowfish) and solid theology. I’ll be happy to recommend them to colleagues around the area.

Praying for your ministry, guys!
