Tribute to Dr. Adrian Rogers

Joyce Rogers, wife of the late Dr. Adrian Rogers, gave a tribute to her husband at tonight’s worship service. It was a nice tribute, but I (for one) was stunned when she said her husband “would not approve of some of the things going on in the Convention today.” The narrowing of cooperation (read the new IMB policies on private prayer languages and baptism) among some in Baptist circles is what she was referring to. She said on things that didn’t have eternal significance (and these issues do not), her husband would have stated his opinion but would not have been in support of excluding some from participation.

So the wife of the giant Dr. Rogers takes a not-so-veiled swipe at the IMB. It was done graciously, but was quite direct. And she’s dead on accurate.
